That Way the Impact Will be Much Better
I was recently listening to The Academy Is... song, "Down and Out." While a truly heart breaking song, I can't help but love it. The story of an mistreated girl taking control of her life gets me every time. The line, "Why do you wear sunglasses in the home when the sun went down about an hour ago?," at first made me think of someone being abused and trying to cover up the marks. When I thought about this some more I realized that it also showed that she was hiding from herself behind something. The song does not signify who the abuser is (boyfriend, parent?) but it is still just as powerful. "Always up or down," could be describing the relationship. It is either extremely happy or much more sad. I think that "You dream of demons while you sleep that make you stutter when you speak" shows that the girl worries about what will happen in the relationship. This could cause her to have nightmares and/or worry about and become hesitant of the things she does. "Speak now or forever hold your peace in pieces" describes her need to tell someone, but she hesitates to because she worries about what will happen if she does.

About a Girl
The Academy Is... posted a new single on their Myspace titled "About a Girl." I really like it. It more of a poppy sound than the stuff off "Almost Here" and most the stuff on "Santi," but it's not too poppy. It is more main stream sounding than some of their other stuff.
Check it out here.

Snoop Doggy Panic
I just read that Brendon Urie has announced that Panic at the Disco will collaborate with Snoop Dogg. He said the idea came to them when they shared the stage during a show in Germany and played "Gin and Juice." They also played the song on "F'N MTV." There is no definite plans on whether the recording will be on Snoop's next album or Panic's. I'm interested to see how this could turn out. I like the idea of two musicians from different genres coming together to do something.
Check out "Gin and Juice" featuring Panic at the Disco here.

New Beck Album Art
Just. Pretty.
A string quartet tribute to Panic at the Disco's "Pretty. Odd." has been released and you can check it out here. I play the cello and I'm one of those people who actually enjoy this kind of thing. Don't ask me why, but I like hearing the instrumental covers of my favorite songs and seeing how they came out. I really like the way this came out. I've never actually bought one of these, but I'm now considering this one.
The Academy Is...to Release Soon
William Beckett told newsday.com that the new album is thought to come out around August 19 and will be released by Fueled by Ramen. The album is to be an "a celebration of youth." The band is going to release a few songs during Warped Tour. The titled hasn't yet been announced, but Beckett says it will be important for a band whose last album was named "Santi."

Weezer's Variations on a Shaker Medley
Weezer's new song, "Greatest Man that Ever Lived" is now available on iTunes. I'm listening to it right now, and I really like it. There's definetly Weezer songs I like better (Buddy Holly) but I'll probably end up buying this. I love Variations on a Shaker Medley, and was kinda worried I wouldn't like this because of it, but I really do. The way it transitions reminds me of the really long songs off "American Idiot." (Which is a Green Day album, for those of you who are completely clueless.)
Such a Lovely Place
Last night I went to see the Eagles, and it was absolutely amazing. It was possibly the best concert I've been to. They sounded awesome. I was surprised by how much of their solo stuff they played. It did work out nicely for me, because they played "Boys of Summer" which is one of my most favorite songs of all time.

Foo Fighters Wants and Needs
The Foo Fighter's tour rider was leaked online. For those of you who don't know, a tour rider is pretty much a list of things that the band will want when they get to the venue. Here are some interesting things i found on their's.
1. Please have signs visibly posted from crew entrance to catering prior to our arrival. Fat Roadies have to eat immediately so they can begin their arduous 70 to 90 minute work out.
2. A selection of cereals, and they can not be the same cereals from the night before.
3. No roast beef cold cut on deli meet tray.
4. Every lunch should include a "soup of the day." Please try to make it a vegetarian selection. Meaty soups make roadies fart.
5. Pasta/Italian Food Dishes (By pasta, we do not mean spaghetti soup as your town already has a homeless shelter. We live out of suitcases for goodness sakes!
6. ALSO- let's try to think outside the box as we consider the CHICKEN BREAST. A bunch of lightly cooked chicken breasts with goo on them are not fun, not exciting, and definetly not going to GET YOU A HUG FROM OUR BASS PLAYER NATE. (He's the real people person, not the guy from Nirvana.) I can not tell you how many times in catering all over the world, I have seen island after tiny island of chicken boobs floating in a mercury like sauce that gets pawned off as a thirteen dollar (US) entree. This is not a diss to lunch rooms and the genius of the tator tot or the surly lunch lady per se. It's just a thought.
7. Here are some cool things to do with meat and meat examples. Fried turkey, friend chicken, fried anything, really. Sausages, veggie sausages. Big ass kielbasas that make men self conscious. Any sort of tubed meats. Maybe a night of "fair foods." Cornish game hens. Meat-in a loaf form. Turkey meatloaf. Bacon. I call it "God's currency." Hell if it could be breathed, I would. Bacon in any form is great. Not as an entree, but just in general.
8. Three whole firm border line chubby avocados
9. One mess of fruit
10. One bag of Pirate's Booty. Not Johnny Depp's.
11. Twenty-four Large Bath Towels- If they are new and unwashed, you will receive a wedgie.
12. Four Bottles of Gatorade (Remember wacky colors please)
Appearently the rider was written by the band's tour manager, Gus Brandt.

AbsolutePunk interviews two Bands who Love the Beatles
"I love the Beatles. They took music and made it their own. I don't want to sound like them or be them. I respect them for trying to do other things. Experience is the best thing for a writer and I try to experience as much as I can."

Obviously we love The Beatles. We love a lot of older bands. I think that's one thing why people might compare us so much to those types of bands. When we recorded we tracked everything live. It's a little bit looser. It's a little bit more like a band. But a far as any conscious decision, we just wanted to write the songs we wanted to write.

PunkNews interviews Jamies Tworkowski of To Write Love on Her Arms
"Well now it’s basically a non-profit organization. Sometimes we say a non-profit movement, and basically we talk about depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. We’re in a position just to talk about those issues, which are issues that people don’t talk much about and to try to encourage people that need help to get help. We work to connect people to help and then to really just invite people and challenge people to begin to learn about these issues and talk about these issues and learn how to help take care of our friends that may be struggling with these things. We also invest in treatment, and really, the unique thing is that it all grew out of an attempt to just help one person, and we started printing these t shirts to raise money to pay for our friend’s treatment, and it’s all kind of grown through there."

Jack White Talks to the Times
"I started trying to make an art form out of giving someone a bill, like writing it with crayon on a piece of paper, or having a yellow piece of paper with black marker saying, ‘You owe me $300.’ People would be like, ‘What the hell is this?’ and I’d be like, ‘I don’t know, I just want you to sign this and give it back to me and pay me, and that way I can have it as a… um…’ People just didn’t dig it. It was two different worlds colliding."

My Chemical Romance Pre-Order
You an pre-order the new My Chemical Romance The Black Parade is Dead Live CD and DVD here. Black Parade has always been an album that I've contemplating buying, but never gotten around to it. I heard there was a chance of a special edition CD and I thought I'd wait around for it. I'm not sure how interested I am in a My Chemical Romance live album. The DVD's probably pretty rad. I've watched many videos of them on youtube, and they are a fun band to watch. You can order the CD in a limited edition package that includes a handpainted Day of the Dead mask, Certificate of Authenticity, three downloadable tracks from the Mexico City set and all comes in a pinewood box.

Saves the Day/Say Anything Collaboration
When Chris Conley was asked about it he answered, "david and I recorded a full-length with max and coby in january. max and I share lead vocals and we each play guitar. david plays bass and coby plays drums. the songs were 50-50 compositions between me and max (max would write the bridge to my songs, and vice versa) and david wrote one song. we don't have a name for the side project yet, but we have a finished album. there are eleven original songs and one cover of a song by ween called "even if you don't". we're in the process of getting a deal to distribute the music, although right now there is no time set in stone for the release of the album. we'll keep you posted. if the album comes out this year, there's a small chance we will tour in support of the CD. so keep your ears peeled!"

UltimateGuitar.com Interviews Joe Trohman
"The other day I went to a Japanese restaurant and then to Target, and I got bugged. But just last night, I went to a jazz bar. Nobody bugged me there. So it all depends upon where I go to hang out. It’s never that bad. Honestly, most people are like super cool, and they’ll just come up to me and shake hands, and that’ll be it. But it rarely gets out of control."

Gonna Get You High
I just read that these flyers were at the Fueled by Ramen table at Bamboozle over the weekend. It's also in the new "Guilty Pleasure" video when they're in the Karaoke Bar. Their own little way of getting people to watch TRL today and seeing the video. It's pretty funny if you ask me.

Honda Civic Tour 2008
Over the weekend, my family and I went to see Panic at the Disco. They were playing at the Masquerade. It was so much fun. Besides the fact that it rained for the first half of the show, we had an awesome time. Phantom Planet, The Hush Sound, and Motion City Soundtrack all opened. All the bands sounded great.

All Along the Watchtower
"I think Dylan wrote one of the timeless songs of all time when he wrote that song, and it's one of those songs that can be interpreted so many ways.." -Warren Haynes
"All Along the Watchtower" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan. Dylan performed this very song more often at any concert than any of his other compositions. At the end of 2007, it was estimated that he had sung the song 1,748 times on stage.
Dylan, recovering from a motorcycle accident which marked his career shift, had begun to read the Bible on a daily basis. The Book of Isiah, Chapter 21, verses 5-9, contains the words is where Dylan found inspiration for the song.
The song has been covered an uncountable number of artists, including Jimi Hendrix Experience and U2.
The Jimi Hendrix Expierence began to record their cover when Hendrix had been given a copy of Dylan's recording. To the Hendrix cover, Dylan replyed by saying, ""It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."
U2 covered the song, and then performed the song on tour years later with an additional verse added by Bono. The performance can be seen in their documentary, "Rattle and Hum."
The Dave Matthews version of the song maintains Dylan's three chord structure and key signature, but differs in style. Dave Matthews typically starts the song slow with just vocals and guitar and the rest of the band joins him at the line "the hour is getting late" and the song tempo increasingly picks up.
Other artists to cover the song include Prince, Pearl Jam, Elton John, Eric Clapton, DMC, The Fratellis, Howie Day, The Indigo Girls, John Mellencamp, Lenny Kravitz, Phish, Tori Amos, and Widespread Panic.
Andrew Stockdale, front man of Wolfmother, has stated that the characteristics of their song "Joker and the Thief" came from Dylan's original song, which he has adored for years.

E Street Band Keyboardist Passes Away
Danny Federici, E Street Band founding member and keyboardist, passed away yesterday afternoon in New York City after a long struggle with melanoma. He was 58 years old. He had taken an absence from the band's current tour in November and made a surprise appearance in Indianapolis on March 20th and performed a few songs with the band.
Federici and the E Street Band's drummer, Vini Lopez, saw Springsteen perform at Asbury Park and convinced him to leave his band, Earth, for their band, Child. Child eventually evolved into The E Street Band.
Federici's distinct organ and accordian playing can be heard on tracks like "Hungry Heart," "Kitty's Back," and "4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy)." He's played on every E Street Band record.

Elisa Schwartz becomes Elisa Jordana
What's the difference?
Elisa Schwartz is the former Cobra Starship keytarist. Gabe Saporta, Cobra Starship's frontman, says she left to work on her solo career, while Schwartz says she was replaced. Schwartz is also a self described "nervous girl who never really knew where to fit in."
Elisa Jordana is a pop super-starlet, and pretty much the opposite of Shwartz in every possible way.
"I feel like since the whole Cobra Starship thing happened, I've sort of turned into Elisa Jordana. I've been recording and doing photo shoots, and I've sort of turned into this glamorous pop star," Jordana told MTV news. "Like the other night, I decided I needed some press photos — and I really wanted to be in a bathing suit — so I called my friend, we found this Mexican taco stand that was open at, like, 3 a.m., and I just went for it. Elisa Schwartz never would've been able to do that. Elisa Jordana did. So that's the name I chose to use for my new project."
"I wanted to collaborate with the most awesome producers, make hits, get the biggest deal and have fun while doing it," she continued. "I mean, like, I really want to rap, so on 'Nymphomaniac,' I rap. It's that simple."
Jordana admits to tracking the current success of her former band, and says that she is not at all jelous of the band's new keytarst, Victoria Asher.
"She's doing a real good job. I admire her. And she MySpace-messaged me recently, saying, 'I know you have beef with me, but I really love your songs.' She went out of her way to talk to me, which I appreciated," Jordana said. "And I love the new record [Cobra] did. I'll always admire Gabe [Saporta] and what he did for me. I mean, I'm aware part of the reason people are paying attention to me is because of Cobra Starship."
When asked if she'll still play keytar Jordana responded that she would.
"Oh my God, of course! Actually, I can't talk about it too much, but I'm hoping to get my own signature keytar," she said. "I want it to be covered with hearts and flowers, and I want it to be wireless. I'm a really good dancer, so I want to be able to move when I'm performing. And I'm a gymnast, too, so I wanna do gymnastics in my set. But who knows? The keytar is pretty heavy."

The Academy Is...Back
Less than a year after their last release, The Academy Is... are already gearing up for their as-yet-titled third album. Singer, William Beckett has promised revealing, autobiographical lyrics. "These songs are taking shape fairly quickly-it's therapeutic," says Beckett, "It's sort of the way it started. I would compare it to the feeling of release we got on Almost Here."
